May was a slightly quieter month for the Resident Voice team, but it has still been a productive one. They have continued to spend time in our communities, listening to residents, answering questions and ensuring their voices are heard. From attending community events and hosting drop-in sessions to supporting local initiatives, we have remained focused on building relationships and understanding what matters most to our residents.
This month also saw the launch of our Sustainability Green Space Award and Tallest Sunflower Competition, encouraging residents to get involved in creating greener, more vibrant neighbourhoods while celebrating the fantastic outdoor spaces across our communities. You can find out more about these here.
We are also continuing to grow our network of community champions. If you’re looking for an opportunity to help shape services, influence decision-making and elevate resident voices, we’d love to hear from you. Click here to find out more about becoming a community champion.
Don’t forget that our Community Investment Grant applications are now open. If you have a project you are looking for some funding for find out more here.
What has been happening
In Haverhill and the surrounding areas.

If you don’t already know me, I am Demi, the resident voice officer for Haverhill and the surrounding areas. Here is what we have been up to:
- Karen and I attended the Stourview opening day. It was a very successful event, and we are looking forward to using the space to support residents and community activities going forward. Stourview has also been successful in securing a Community Investment Grant (CIG), which will help fund improvements to the garden space. I am yet to formally notify them of the successful application.
- Karen hosted the Haverhill Rugby Club drop-in session on my behalf. The event was well attended, with 14 residents taking part, and several issues were resolved on the day.
- We hosted a small coffee morning for residents of High Street in Haverhill, to discuss the upcoming repair works. We invited local businesses and neighbouring homeowners to ensure they were aware of the planned works and any potential impact. Two people attended the session, one resident and one homeowner – and a number of questions were answered.
- I have also collected posters from Chilton Primary School in Stowmarket. The posters have been created to encourage better recycling habits alongside the introduction of the new bin changes. As a thank you for their involvement, we have donated equipment for the school’s new mud kitchen.
This month
- We will be hosting our first combined drop-in session and estate walkabout at Chalkstone Community Centre. The aim is to address any issues raised by residents while on site, allowing us to work with the Neighbourhood and Estates team to identify and respond to concerns directly. Representatives from the council’s recycling team will also be attending to answer any questions residents may have about the new bin changes.
As I prepare to go on maternity leave, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all the residents I have spoken to over the past few months. It has also been a pleasure getting to know our community champions and hear all your views, ideas and feedback.
While I am away, I know I am leaving you in safe hands and that the team will continue to support and work closely with residents. We also have a new member of the team joining us soon, and we look forward to introducing them to you shortly.
Thank you for your continued involvement and support. I look forward to catching up with you all when I return.
In Bury and the surrounding areas

If you don’t already know me, I am Jordan, the resident voice officer for Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding areas. Here is what we have been up to:
- I met with Home-Start to explore opportunities for working together in the future and how we can continue to support local families and communities.
- We have received several new community champion applications and look forward to welcoming more residents who want to help make a difference in their neighbourhoods.
- Our Sunflower Competition and Sustainable Outdoor Space Project have now launched. If you’d like to brighten up your garden or outdoor area and get involved, we’d love to hear from you. The Sustainable Outdoor Space Project is a great opportunity to make improvements that benefit both residents and the environment.
- Unfortunately, due to the extreme heat, we had to postpone our Stanton pop-up event. We’ll share a new date as soon as possible and look forward to seeing residents there.
- We also carried out neighbourhood check-ins at Barrow and Vinefields, speaking with residents about their communities and gathering valuable feedback. Following comments from residents about the importance of keeping shared spaces tidy, we provided posters to help encourage everyone to take pride in their communal areas.
- We also held a drop-in session for residents at The Vinefields. While no residents attended on this occasion, we’d love to see more people get involved at future sessions. The next drop-in takes place on 25 June, providing another opportunity to share feedback, ask questions and discuss any local issues with the team.
- We’re also beginning to plan a number of community improvement projects based directly on the feedback we’ve received from residents. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their views and ideas with us.
