Sustainability works at The Vinefields

We have submitted a planning application to West Suffolk Council for sustainability improvements to homes at The Vinefields in Bury St Edmunds.

If approved, the works would take place on around 62 homes and will help improve energy efficiency, comfort and ensure homes are fit for the future.

The proposed works include:

  • External wall insulation to help homes retain heat
  • New windows to improve insulation and reduce heat loss
  • New roofs and rainwater goods such as gutters and downpipes
  • Solar panels (solar PV) to generate renewable electricity

Together, these improvements will help homes stay warmer, use less energy and support a more sustainable way of living.

Most of the work will take place on the outside of homes, helping to minimise disruption for residents while the improvements are carried out.

We have recently completed similar work on homes in Anselm Avenue (see below) in Bury St Edmunds, where residents are already seeing the benefits of more energy-efficient homes.

The proposals will now be considered by West Suffolk Council as part of the planning process.

If planning permission is granted, we expect work to begin in spring 2026.

We have written to residents living in The Vinefields to explain the proposals in more detail. A dedicated project officer will continue to keep residents updated as the planning process progresses and will be available to answer any questions.

Jenny Spoor, director of operations explains:

“Building energy-efficient homes and making our existing homes more sustainable is a priority for us. Submitting this planning application is an important step towards improving the energy efficiency and comfort of homes.”

The project will be funded through a combination of planned investment from us and government funding through the Warm Homes Fund.
