Looking after your area

Our neighbourhood check-ins are carried out by an estate ranger and a neighbourhood housing officer alongside other members of our team. During these inspections, we will work with you to identify any issues your community may have, such as fly-tips, anti-social behaviour (ASB) or grounds maintenance. We will then agree on an action plan and time frame to resolve these.

These check-ins are the best way for you to tell us about any issues, but we know that sometimes there is confusion around who you need to report issues to. You can use this page to help you find out who you need to speak to.

Street lighting

If you live in one of our housing developments built in the past five years, you can call us on 0300 3300 900 if you need advice about street lighting issues.

Most other streetlights are owner and managed by the county or borough council. If you spot a problem with street lighting and you are unsure who you need to contact, you can use the gov.uk website to check. Just click here to find out how.

There are exceptions to this, and your local county council website will help you understand who is responsible.

Public highways

Most of the roads, pavements and verges around our communities are maintained by the county council. However there are exceptions, for example, where we have homes on new developments that are yet to be adopted by the council. You can use www.findmystreet.co.uk to find out who has maintenance responsibility for an area.

Trees, hedges and shrub beds

We own some trees within our communities, and you can identify these by the tag that is attached to the tree.

If you have an issue you’d like to report, you can:

  • Call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.
  • Log it via our resident app, myHavebury
  • Email us at myarea@havebury.com

Other trees may be the responsibility if your local council. You can find more information on that on their website.

Grass cutting

For areas of grass that we are responsible for, you can report issues to us in the following ways:

  • Call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.
  • Log it via our resident app, myHavebury
  • Email us at myarea@havebury.com

You can find out more about our grounds maintenance schedule here.

Want to know when our Grounds Maintenance team will next be in your area, or when they last visited? You can check at any time through our myHavebury app.

Important to remember – During the summer, you may see areas of grass that look a little longer, or it may look as if we have missed some parts. Don’t worry, this is not the case. We don’t like to cut wildflowers when they are flowering, as it disrupts bees and other wildlife. We’ll cut them once the season has finished.

Your local council are responsible for parks and green spaces, playing fields and recreation grounds, cemeteries, playgrounds (amenity areas) and grass verges. Please get in touch with them if there are any issues with these grassed areas.

Bins and recycling

If there is a bin store near your home, we will manage these. But we do ask that everyone plays their part in keeping them clean and tidy.

Did you know, it costs at least £125 to carry out the below works:

  • Clearing a fly-tip
  • Emptying the bin if the council refuse to empty it due to misuse
  • Clearing the bin store if it has been misused
  • Carry out repairs in the communal areas

These costs are then recharged to you through your service charges.

Your local council deals with waste management and recycling so if you have any issues with refuse collection, your collection day or anything please get in touch with them directly.

Street cleaning (not including hard standing areas which we manage)

Street cleaning and maintaining public spaces is the responsibility of your local council. You can report street cleaning issues to them online in most cases.

However, if you are concerned about a hardstanding area and you are unsure who is responsible, you can identify our land and report concerns via myHavebury using the “view grounds maintenance in my area” function.

Or you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.

Fly-tips

Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of household or trade waste. It can vary in size, from as little as a single bag of rubbish, to domestic items such as furniture and fridges and has a real impact on your community.

What to do if you discover a fly-tip:

  • If the offence is being committed at the time of the call, please contact your local police team by dialling 101.
  • We would advise you not to touch fly-tipped waste, as it may be dangerous.
  • Your council will treat this as a serious offence and will prosecute anyone caught fly-tipping waste.
  • You can also use myHavebury to report fly-tipping in the area. Once you are signed into the app you will see the “tell us something” icon.
  • When reporting a fly-tip you will see a map, which you can use to select the location of where the fly-tip is located.
  • Next, you can tell us the nature of the fly-tip (and if you know who has caused this issue). You also have the option of adding a photo to your report.

You can also report a fly tip to myarea@havebury.com or give the Neighbourhood and Estates team a call on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.
